30th Birthday Explosion Cookies!

A friend of mine celebrated her 30th birthday this past Friday, and with the end-of-the-mayan-calendar-apocalypse set for the same day, the theme of the party was meant to be.  I added these explosion cookies to the spread for the party.

Modern Silver Christmas Cookies

With some inspiration from SweetSugarBelle, I made some silver and blue Christmas cookies with a modern flair.  I absolutely love how they turned out!

More Christmas Cheer!

Here are some shots of newer designs for Christmas cookies that I've made this week. New this year are the mittens; I really enjoy making these ones and the design really captures the eye.  Since I'm sure my kids aren't the only ones that like the look of gingerbread men more than the taste, I made a more kid-friendly version of gingerbread men with chocolate icing and classic gingerbread man decorations.  And lastly, I've added a seasonal touch to my tile cookies with a holly design.

I really enjoyed the challenge of making these Power Rangers cupcakes!

Lego Party

I did some treats for another Lego themed birthday party!  Lego block sugar cookies with more lego head marshmallow pops.  Always a classic and just so tasty.

Paintball Cupcakes

My husband went paintballing for his birthday, and couldn't resist making cupcakes for the occasion!

Go Sports!

I got a request for all sports themed cupcakes, and these are a few designs I came up with.  The footballs and jerseys were hardened royal icing to add a bit of extra effect.  I made cupcakes themed in hockey, basketball, soccer, football, baseball, and then made jerseys in team Canada colors.  The footballs and jerseys were made in royal icing for added interest.

Tile Cookies

A friend of mine has dubbed these decorated sugar cookies "Tile Cookies" after thinking about how much they look like spanish ceramic tiles.  Believe it or not, I can crank out the decoration on these cookies faster than anything else I make because the design is all made in one layer.  I've now decided that they're my go-to design for non-seasonal requests.

Fall Cookies

I think I've fallen in love with these cookies I've made for Thanksgiving weekend!  Sunflowers and acorns add that little extra whimsy to maple and oak leaves.

Celebrating With Cupcakes

This order for 90th Birthday cupcakes turned out great with miniature purple roses and "90" picks all handmade with royal icing on my signature vanilla cupcakes with vanilla buttercream icing.

Black Forest Cake

I made my first ever entirely-from-scratch black forest cake!  It was a big hit.

Sugar Cookie Summer

Often in times of boredom, I choose to use the time to bake and decorate cookies.  Here are some flowery treats that I made this month.

Let Them EAT Cake!

Everyone makes cakes these days.  They have to look pretty, they have to be coated in smooth fondant, and after every effort has been made to create this masterpiece for our eyes, the taste has all but been forgotten in the hype.  I think that the desire for visual perfection has us compromising on taste.  I prefer to strive for simplicity in a cake - making sure that taste is the height of the experience.  The cake I make might not be the smoothed fondant perfection that is plastered all over the internet, but it tastes magnificent.

Angry Birds Cake

My first request for Angry Birds, and it turned out pretty awesome.

Lego Ninjago Cupcakes & Cookies

We had a Lego Ninjago birthday party this weekend for my son, which definitely required cookies and cupcakes.  The ninja cookie-cutters (Ninjabread Men by Fred) supplied the perfect shape for Ninjago cookies, and the simple cupcake design was pleasing to the eye, not to mention tasty!

Lego Head Marshmallow Pops!

Time for a Lego party!  Not only did these little guys turn out great, they tasted awesome.  I mean, who doesn't love chocolate-covered marshmallows??

Gluten-Free? Really?

I had a request last week for a gluten-free cake with a "Hulk" theme!  As a person with Celiac disease, I was more than happy to bake it.  It was a moist and fluffy chocolate cake with french vanilla icing.  So gluten-free can look AND taste good!

The Start Of Something Beautiful

I'm Christy, and I love to bake.

Originally I had no intention of starting my own business as a baker, I just love to bake for people.  My desire to make every cookie and square look and taste perfect is just something I like to do with my spare time, so when I started getting offers of payment for my work, it was quite a decision to make.  Do I love baking enough to bake more than I already do?  Is it going to become something I don't enjoy anymore if I know that there's an expectation on me?  Well, I'm here to find out.
